Claus hated storms.

From the logical reason of how near every single limb he had began aching from the pressure changes to the emotional of how torrential downpours reminded him far too much of the night everything changed, he hated it all.

Which only made his lack of awareness all the more humiliating.

Claus cursed himself, getting both himself and Kingu trapped out in the middle of the forest in the pouring rain. Even if he had dismissed the aching as the aches and pains he dealt with on a daily basis, he shouldn't have been so careless as to miss the heavy grey clouds rolling in overhead or the scent of rain on the breeze.

He hadn't been paying attention, and now, he was paying the price. A horrible mixture of embarrassment and old anxieties bubbled up within Claus. His arms were wrapped tight around himself as he attempted to press himself further back against the tree the pair had taken refuge beneath. Each flash of lightning, each clap of thunder had him holding his breath alongside the sudden spiking of his heartbeat. He knew the thunder was no roar, but sometimes it almost sounded like it...especially the ones which rolled on and on...

He hated the way his body trembled.

He had to pull himself together, he shouldn't be acting like this, he knew better! He couldn't go causing more problems or embarrassing himself more! He-

Runaway thoughts were brought to a halt by the feeling of a hand resting atop his head. The weight caught him off-guard, snatching his attention away from the torrent of discomfort and fear to Kingu instead. Slowly he tilted his head to look toward the other, confusion written across his features. The silence stretches on, filled only by the sound of the pouring rain.
